Hello - Help Needed

Hi All, newbie to this site so please bare with me.  I am trying to help a family friend who lives 200 miles away. His mother sadly passed away suddenly a few weeks back and we are trying to get the family some money by selling on items that he doesn't want. Very sad:(..... He has found a set of china which is very pretty but not sure if it is worth anything. Ive looked everywhere for the makers id but cant find it written down ! On the bottom of the plates it has a diamond with the letters NS written inside it. The set is mainly cream/white with a gold pattern on it, similar to a wedgood style but more like chinease/Japanese...The nice thing is when you hold the cups up to the light a ladies head/face appears in the base of them...very sweet.  Can anyone suggest what we may have and wether it is likely to have any value.  All he knows is that they were his grandmothers!
