When my mother passed away she left her doll collection to me.  I am trying to learn the value of several dolls so they can be sold.  Two of those dolls are black dolls.
One has an original red/white poka dot fabric body, arms, legs, and back of head, but the face appears to be leather. On a card pinned to the doll mother wrote: "Nanny" -- Old colored doll.  There is not too much known about this doll except that it is old.  In the early days of doll making the only colored dolls were rag dolls like this one.  I found this doll in an old antique store in Cowtown, Wichita, Kansas."
Second doll she wrote: "Black Topsy Baby Doll -- all composition head and body with painted face. Made about 1934."  The head has three bunches of brown thread - one on each side and one on the top - each gathered together and tied with a red ribbon.  Doll is in pretty good condition considering it's age.
Does anyone have any information to share about these dolls?

Photos would be very helpful as a "topsy" doll is usually two dolls in one. They are called Topsy turvy dolls. You have a head at each end with a long skirt to hide the head on the bottom.

The early rag dolls were made using what ever fabric was on hand. The face might be kid but the polka dots really does not fit in with a real early doll.
