I have a painting that was my Grandmother's. I do not have any info on this piece. I remember it hanging in the basement when I would visit her. It has a signature of Cieve Hao'ler with the date in a circle '51 under the signature. I have tried to find this artist but have had no luck. Do you have any suggestions on how to find some information. Thanks.....  Grin

Most libraries have a book on notable artist's from all over the world, you might check on this.

It could also be an amateur artist who never became well known.

Here are my search ideas:

Internet resources (ignoring the obvious, like Google):
The major site for professional galleries is: www.artnet.com. simply type in the artist name in the search box. If the artist is shown by an existing gallery it will pop up. Or if there are past auction results it will let you know. You will have to pay for the auction results, but the rest is free.
Artinfo.com: new but catching up to artnet.com
Wwar.com (world wide art resource). More clumsy but also useful.
Wikipedia.com Is useful, but short on artist bios.
www.artcyclopedia.com Good but limited as well.
