When cleaning out my mother's apartment, I found a Landers, Frary & Clark Universal F981 toaster, at least I'm assuming it's a toaster. All the toasters I've found seem to be able to toast both sides at once. This one is just open and rectangular, large enough for 2 pieces of bread, with very thin wires to lay the toast (or bagel) and all the heating element wires running underneath. One would then have to flip whatever is being toasted in order to toast the other side. It works and heats extremely quickly. (I took it to a nearby electrical supply house...I was too afraid to plug it in at home!)

I have seached and found detailed information about the company, but the model number doesn't yield any results anywhere online. When I search, I haven't found anything that even slightly resembles it. My sister remembers seeing it in my grandmother's apartment. My grandparents were married in the vicinity of 1918 so this really dates back, I'm sure.
Anyone have any ideas?
