Hello,

I was just curious if there is any resource that one can recommend regarding Limoges hand painted china.  ( Plates, chargers, bowls, etc.) No chips or wear it appears. I have inherited about 50 pieces that have been packed away  in Chicago since the 50's and most have "LRN" and the dates of 1903-1908 on the back of the plates.  I believe the LRN was my Aunt's mother who painted the china.

Thank you

There are several books on Limoges china on the market and your library might have at least one.

Many porcelain factories, including some in Limoges France, made blanks or greenware for the home porcelain painter. Porcelain painting was very popular during the late 1800's through the 1950's and has seen a resurgence in recent years.

As for value, some of the home porcelain painters did become well known for their beautiful pieces whereas others just did it as a hobby. The popular home painter pieces can bring a decent price whereas those from lesser known painter's bring a lower price unless the art is exceptional.
